CCUSA and CHA comment on proposed census changes

    November 2, 2026

Catholic Charities USA and the Catholic Health Association submitted a joint comment letter to the U.S. Census Bureau on its proposed rule that would change who is included in the decennial census count, where individuals are counted, and what demographic information is collected. The letter expresses concern that, if implemented, the rule would lead to an inaccurate count of the population of the United States and significantly reduce the accuracy, completeness, and usefulness of census data. An inaccurate census count would undermine the equitable allocation of resources that communities rely on to meet basic needs.
