CCUSA applauds Senate passage of affordable housing legislation
In reaction to the U.S. Senate’s passage with bipartisan support of the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act on Thursday, March 12, Catholic Charities USA President and CEO Kerry Alys Robinson released the following statement:
“As the lack of affordable housing continues to place a huge financial strain on families around the country, we applaud the Senate for passing the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, and we urge the Senate and the House of Representatives to enter into conference negotiations to create the strongest housing legislation possible. We also continue to urge legislators of both bodies and both parties not to lose sight of the millions of Americans suffering from homelessness and to pursue additional legislation aimed squarely at reducing homelessness, such as those previously proposed in the Reducing Homelessness Through Program Reform Act. Access to safe, decent housing is a fundamental human right that should be attainable for all of God’s children.”
