Residential services, case management have tremendous impact

February 11, 2022

As a part of CCUSA’s Healthy Housing Initiative, Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada (CCSN) has been providing residential services case management at our low-income St. Vincent Apartments. In December 2021, Dignity Health generously renewed its support of this program, allowing us to continue providing client-centered, trauma-informed and intensive case management to some of the most vulnerable members of our community.

“It’s not only important that tenants have a private and secure place to make their home,” said Steve Schmitt, senior vice president and chief operating officer, “but also access to the supportive services they need to retain it.”

Through this program, we have successfully assisted clients with applications for benefits, referrals to other community organizations and agencies, applications for paratransit and the navigation of healthcare services. Our residential services case manager currently has a caseload of 21 residents, and recently, we helped one of our senior clients apply for and receive SNAP benefits, as well as paratransit services to attend her doctors’ appointments with ease. We also assisted her with enrolling in CCSN’s Meals on Wheels program so that she can receive seven nutritionally balanced meals, delivered on a weekly basis.

The partnership with Dignity Health has allowed CCSN to use the residential services case management model as a pilot program and a pathway towards our Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) project.

CCSN is actively working with Nevada HAND, Inc. to construct PSH units that will offer essential support systems and resources to individuals who are experiencing chronic homelessness in our community.

We are very grateful for Dignity Health’s continued support of our mission to provide a healthy housing experience for our residents at St. Vincent. Their long-standing commitment to improving the health and overall wellbeing of our community is a beacon of hope for us all.

Marcus Valerio, Senior Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer.
