CCUSA to help Ukrainians escape horrors of war

May 4, 2022

As part of Catholic Charities USA’s longstanding commitment to immigration and refugee ministry, Sister Donna Markham, OP, PhD, President and CEO, has met in Washington, D.C., with the five Ukrainian bishops who represent the four U.S. Eparchies. The topic at the May 3 meeting was the eventual resettlement of Ukrainians in the United States and CCUSA’s role in facilitating that process.

This meeting will be followed by a second with the Archeparch at CCUSA’s offices to discuss the needs of those who have been displaced and how CCUSA can best assist.

The crisis of displaced persons in Western Europe caused by the war in Ukraine is one of many such global crises today. CCUSA prays for all those whose lives have been disrupted by war, violence, racial strife, corruption and political instability, natural disasters and poverty, causing them to flee their countries of origin and seek safety elsewhere.

We will continue to work with local, state and federal authorities to provide humanitarian assistance and essential services to all those who seek our help, as we have done for more than a century.
