Alexandria, Va. – As Catholic Charities USA (CCUSA) continues to provide much-needed funds to local Catholic Charities agencies that are assisting families and individuals affected by Hurricane Harvey and related floods, it is also preparing to support recovery efforts in the wake of Hurricane Irma in Florida, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and potentially other areas along the East Coast.
“This is a very challenging moment for our nation,” said Sister Donna Markham OP, PhD, President and CEO of CCUSA. “The damage from Harvey and related flooding has been monumental. Now, the imminent destruction from Irma is upon us. The generosity of people in sending donations is of enormous assistance as we strive to meet these overwhelming challenges. Catholic Charities agencies will be there supporting people as long as they need help. We are with people for the duration of the process toward recovery.”
CCUSA’s Text-to-Give campaign, which was launched in response to Hurricane Harvey, has received $4 million to date. The campaign is now also accepting donations for relief from Hurricane Irma and the possible impact of Hurricane Jose. One hundred percent of donations is directed to Catholic Charities agencies in the areas impacted by disasters to assist people with shelter, food, and other needs.
