Catholic Charities USA welcomes House vote in favor of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act

Alexandria, Va. ― Catholic Charities USA (CCUSA) welcomes the vote in favor of the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act by the House of Representatives today, paving the way for the president’s signature.

The infrastructure act makes significant contributions to the well-being of our nation.  CCUSA applauds the commitment of funds for environmental remediation, the increase in transportation and clean-energy jobs, and the expansion of affordable and reliable broadband service.

“The infrastructure act, with its focus on a clean environment, jobs, and expanded internet access, takes important steps toward making the economy work for everyone,” said Sister Donna Markham, OP, PhD, president and CEO of CCUSA. “Many people Catholic Charities serves, such as senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and people living in rural areas, will experience a major improvement in their standard of living with access to telehealth and education programs through expanded broadband.”

CCUSA urges the Senate to take up and pass a reconciliation bill as soon as possible that respects human dignity by including measures that will lift millions of people and children out of poverty through the Child Tax Credit and Earned Income Tax Credit, housing voucher expansion, affordable housing and child care access, home-based care for seniors, early education for families and the Hyde amendment.

The Catholic Charities ministry, which operates 3,800 sites across 50 states and the U.S. territories, has a long history of serving local communities and alleviating poverty. In 2020, the Catholic Charities’ network provided more than 15 million people with essential services.
