Summary Description
The Senior Designer plays a vital role in the development, direction and execution of all creative assets for Catholic Charities USA (CCUSA). As one of two designers that report to the Chief Communications and Marketing Officer (CCMO) in the Communications and Marketing Office, this position collaborates closely with the other designer to ensure brand consistency and a unified visual voice across all platforms. Projects include high-profile work for print collateral, direct mail, digital media, email campaigns, identity systems, periodicals, presentations and motion graphics, under the creative direction of the CCMO and in coordination with the Senior Director of Marketing.
Primary Responsibilities
- Brand Leadership: Establish and maintain comprehensive design standards for print, digital, advertising and motion graphics, including brand guidelines and usage of identity elements (e.g., fonts, color palette, logo usage).
- Creative Oversight: Develop and implement streamlined creative processes to ensure brand consistency across all visual communications.
- Print Management: Oversee the full lifecycle of print projects—including cost estimation, final art preparation, vendor coordination and production management in concert with the Senior Director of Marketing.
- Motion Graphics & Video: Collaborate with the Senior Video Producer on visual elements for video production, including art direction and motion graphics.
- Agency Support: Advise Catholic Charities network agencies on design practices and support the integration of national branding standards, including use of the CCUSA logo and identity.
- Vendor Management: Identify, retain and evaluate external vendors—including designers, other visual arts freelancers and printers—to support the organization’s creative needs.
- Budget Oversight: Manage design-related outsourcing budgets effectively and responsibly.
- Facilities Support: Assist with interior design needs for CCUSA spaces, working with architects and contractors to align physical environments with the organization’s brand and mission.
- Rights & Releases: Ensure legal use of all images and video, including maintaining proper permissions and release forms for media sourced or created.
- Event Production: Serve as Producer for major events, including CCUSA’s Annual Gathering, overseeing creative planning and execution and a seamless run of show.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong creative vision with a demonstrated ability to lead and execute compelling, brand-aligned designs
- Awareness of current design and visual communication trends
- Proficiency in vendor sourcing, negotiation and quality control for creative services
- Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, After Effects)
- Project management skills, with the ability to prioritize and execute multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment
- Familiarity with video post-production tools (Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere preferred)
- Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Fine Arts or a related field (or equivalent professional experience)
- Minimum of five years of professional design experience, either freelance or in-house, with a strong portfolio of diverse work
Work Environment
- This position may require extended periods of standing, sitting, as well as some repetitive movements, bending and repetitive lifting of minimal weight.
