PURPOSE OF POSITION

A Peer Navigator at Catholic Charities:

  • Follows procedures and guidelines set forth in operating guidelines to ensure participant and staff safety.
  • Accurately and promptly completes all required documentation/data, including entering relevant resident information into appropriate recording software. Maintaining accurate records of interactions with residents and ensuring timely data entry into program management systems.
  • Build trusting relationships with residents by providing peer-based support, mentorship, and advocacy, drawing on personal experience with housing instability or related challenges.
  • Conduct regular check-ins with residents to monitor progress, provide encouragement, and address emerging needs or concerns.
  • Assist residents in navigating available resources, including mental health services, medical care, employment assistance, and housing stability programs.
  • Provide emotional support to residents in their journey to maintain housing stability and improve quality of life.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Lived experience with housing instability, homelessness, substance use recovery, or other challenges, with the ability to use that experience to inspire and support others.
  • Ability to effectively work with residents and staff in crises.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed care and the unique needs of individuals transitioning to or maintaining permanent supportive housing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain healthy boundaries while working with residents.
  • Knowledge of community resources and services, particularly those relevant to housing, mental health, and employment

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High School Degree

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Salary: $20.00 per/hour. Part-time.

Training: We provide a robust training curriculum that will support our employees throughout their careers. Training provided within the first year of employment includes: De-escalation & Safety; Mental Health First Aid; Substance Abuse & Mental Health; Human Trafficking; Trauma Informed Care; and many more.
