PURPOSE OF POSITION:
A Behavioral Technician at Catholic Charities:
Assists the Clinical Team with crisis screening and response.
Develop community resources that support the shelter participant’s mental health needs.
Provides coaching and support around conflict resolution between participants
Collect clinical data from screeners and clinical assessments.
Observation and documentation of participants behavior.
Supports participants with activities of daily living (ADLs).
Assist participants with coordinating care both internally & externally (e.g. Shelter Team, Clinical Team and community outpatient and emergency services ). Supports care coordination efforts such as attending medical and outside doctor appointments, ordering medications and treatments, and ensuring adequate delivery of medical services like oxygen to the shelter).
Acts as an advocate for participants and/or participant systems when appropriate.
Under supportive clinical supervision; responsible for providing a safe, supportive, and therapeutic environment for participants experiencing mental health concerns by developing short-term treatment plans, continually monitor treatment progress, and coordinate transitions to other services as needed.
Assist participants with psychological and social development. Work with participants to develop physical and emotional skills including de-escalation.
Provide psychoeducational groups
Supports, promotes, and adheres to Catholic Charities vision, mission, values and Code of Ethics.
Completes necessary administrative duties (paperwork, etc.) timely and accurately.
At the direction of Women’s Emergency Clinical Manager, offers insight, oversight, and advocacy regarding the shelter participant experience.
Maintains confidentiality of client and agency information.
Regular and predictable attendance.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledgeable about the operations of a low-barrier, trauma-informed drop-in emergency shelter, and how these responsibilities are specifically distinguishable from a psychiatric, residential, or transitional housing environments is preferred.
Possess a basic understanding of the behaviors of the unhoused population and an ability to interact in a therapeutic manner.
Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification or similar de-escalation training is preferred.
Experience working with people in crisis.
Ability to remain calm in stressful and/or emergency situations.
Ability to maintain healthy personal boundaries, protecting the therapeutic integrity of the therapeutic relationship.
Ability to work effectively within the framework of Catholic teachings.
Strong organizational, communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
Intermediate knowledge of computers to input information, maintain program data, create, and generate reports, and create communications.
Knowledge of the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics and the appropriate techniques and practices for the client population.
Ability to interact effectively as a team member and independently with Agency staff and with a diverse client base.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Minimum one (1) year of experience working with individuals in crisis in a milieu environment preferred.
Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) or pursuing a graduate degree in Social Work, Counseling, Addiction Medicine, Nursing or similar human services field from an accredited college or university, is preferred.

Salary: $25.00 per hour. Full Time.
