CCUSA submits comments opposing SNAP proposed rule

September 23, 2019

Catholic Charities USA (CCUSA) joins the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), the Catholic Health Association of the United States (CHA), Catholic Rural Life and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul to issue comments today opposing the proposed rule because it would make the SNAP program less efficient, discourage personal savings, undermine the ability of states to respond to local needs, and cause millions of individuals to lose needed nutrition assistance. Catholic social teaching upholds our commitment to advance policies that support the integral development of individuals, families and communities. Healthy food is absolutely necessary to sustain human life, making access to adequate good and nutrition a fundamental human right. Read the full comments.
