Catholic Charities USA commends the efforts of Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar (R-FL) and Rep. Veronica Escobar (D-TX) to put forth a bipartisan proposal for comprehensive reforms of our nation’s broken immigration system.
We continue to urge Congress and the administration to work together in good faith to craft meaningful, humane solutions that uphold the fundamental right to seek asylum, expand lawful pathways to the U.S., and enhance our country’s ability to control its borders. Current U.S. immigration policies are unsustainable, and the much-needed reforms to this system must be rooted in a commitment to human dignity and the common good.
