Catholic Charities USA and the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops provided public comment and shared their concerns with the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) regarding the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking concerning Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing (AFFH), published in the Federal Register on January 14, 2020 (85 Fed. Reg. 2,041). They urged that the proposed rule be withdrawn because it weakens the definition of AFFH, fails to address barriers to fair housing, reduces community engagement, and diminishes the role of Public Housing Authorities. Instead, the 2015 Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing rule should be fully implemented.
