CCUSA welcomes White House’s first faith-based hunger summit since 1969
Catholic Charities USA (CCUSA) welcomes the Biden administration’s decision May 4 to host a White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health this September. In Fall 2021, Catholic Charities USA, in concert with 27 other national faith-based organizations, asked the administration to convene a conference to address food insecurity and hunger in America.
Only one such hunger-focused conference has been convened with faith-based organizations in the U.S. in its history. Held in 1969, the meeting resulted in improved and expanded federal food assistance programs, such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly Food Stamps), the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC), and the National School Lunch Program (NSLP).
CCUSA is committed to ending hunger and helping people live healthy lives. We look forward to the opportunity to share our ideas and work with the administration and other organizations to end hunger in the United States.
