Catholic Charities USA has released the following statement from President and CEO Kerry Alys Robinson about the passing of Bishop Emeritus Frank J. Dewane of the Diocese of Venice, Florida:
“It is with profound sadness that we greet the news of the death of Bishop Emeritus Frank J. Dewane. A deeply faithful man, he was committed to his work on justice, peace, integral human development, religious liberty and the pastoral care of migrants and refugees. Catholic Charities USA benefitted enormously from his time as our episcopal liaison, in which capacity he served from 2020 to 2025. A learned and well-traveled man, he never forgot his Wisconsin dairy farm roots but could regale with stories of his years spent abroad. Bishop Dewane’s passing is a loss to the Diocese of Venice and to the greater Catholic community, but we give thanks today for the profound impact his ministry and witness had on so many lives.”
