The power of mentoring

January 5, 2018

Mike has been a mentor to Ted for 4 years. When they first met Ted was 12 and had never learned to ride a bike. He is being raised by his single grandmother who has multiple medical conditions that prevent her from doing activities with or bringing her grandson to activities. Ted was terrified of bugs and hated to be outside. His favorite – and sole – activity was video games. Slowly, through persistence, patience and trust, Ted began to enjoy being outside. Mike helped Ted to learn how to ride a bike. He also worked with Ted to overcome the phobia of bugs. Just recently they ran their 25th 5K race together. That’s the power of mentoring!
