CCUSA president and CEO presents $1 million for Florida disaster relief efforts

October 18, 2018

Sister Donna Markham, OP, PhD, president and CEO of Catholic Charities USA (CCUSA) traveled to Northwest Florida this week to present $1 million to Catholic Charities in response to the devastation caused by Hurricane Michael.

CCUSA has already provided more than $1.5 million to other Catholic Charities agencies, including those in South Georgia, recovering from Hurricane Michael as well; in the Carolinas, recovering from Hurricane Florence; in California, recovering from the wildfires; and in Hawaii, recovering from the eruption of a volcano.

During this week’s event at Catholic Charities of Northwest Florida, Sister Donna said, “People all over the country are praying for you, in solidarity with you, and wanting to help. Catholic Charities is a huge network of people – staff and volunteers and donors – who are there for the long-haul in times like this.”

“People all across the country are donating to CCUSA to help. As fast as that money comes in we are getting it to you,” she added.

CCUSA works closely with local agencies to ensure that staff are able to respond quickly to the needs of those impacted by disasters. CCUSA provides year-round preparedness training that helps disaster case managers across the Catholic Charities network guide victims to recovery and assist the most vulnerable in rebuilding their lives.
