CCUSA awarded more than $330,000 from AmeriCorps for Healthcare Outreach

Alexandria, Va. – Catholic Charities USA (CCUSA) has been awarded one of more than 80 Healthcare Outreach AmeriCorps grants through AmeriCorps State and National, in collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. This grant will fund 15 members serving across the country, providing healthcare outreach, partnership building and wraparound supportive services.

While many of the grants awarded today fund initiatives focused on COVID-19 response, the program also will help communities address broader health needs that the pandemic has exacerbated, including mental health. The program will build on expertise, best practices and lessons learned from existing CDC, AmeriCorps and other programs. AmeriCorps’ unique model means that the grants announced today will leverage additional funding from the private sector, foundations and other sources – further increasing the return on the federal investment.

Every year, 75,000 AmeriCorps members serve through thousands of nonprofit, community and faith-based organizations across the country. These citizens have played a critical role in the recovery of communities affected by disasters and helped thousands of first-generation college students access higher education. They also tutor and mentor young people, connect veterans to jobs, care for seniors, reduce crime and revive cities, fight the opioid epidemic and meet other critical needs.

As the federal agency for volunteering and service, AmeriCorps brings people together to tackle the country’s most pressing challenges. Since the agency’s inception in 1994, nearly 1.2 million AmeriCorps members have served the nation. Those interested in joining AmeriCorps can learn more at AmeriCorps.gov/Join.
