AmeriCorps Week March 8-14, 2020 (Laney Cook)

I am currently half way through my AmeriCorps year of service with Immigration and Refugee Services at Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans, and I have already seen so much growth in myself. It has been so fulfilling to serve my community. One of my favorite projects so far has been the College and Career Resource fair hosted by Immigration and Refugee Services on February 1, 2020. Over 50 participants attended and received information from 23 universities, community colleges, and community organizations. The participants also had the opportunity to attend workshops on financial aid and the different ways to pay for school. Thirty-five professionals from 13 different fields came to take part in a networking hour during which participants asked questions about their career path. One of the participants said the best thing about the fair was this: “Knowing there are people that care about my situation and that we are not alone.” Another participant said the fair offered her “new confidence to apply and pay for college.”
