CCUSA expresses gratitude for introduction of Asylum Seeker Work Authorization Act bills

In a letter to Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) and Rep. Chellie Pingree (D-ME), Catholic Charities USA (CCUSA) President and CEO Kelly Alys Robinson thanked the legislators for introducing S. 255/H.R.1325, the Asylum Seeker Work Authorization Act of 2023. The proposed bills would expedite asylum seekers’ eligibility for an Employment Authorization Document (EAD), enabling them to quickly access and fill vacant jobs across various industries. Robinson urged bipartisan collaboration to reconcile provisions in these bills to benefit as many asylum seekers as possible, which would have a long-term positive impact on our nation’s economy.
