Justice for Newcomers
Catholic Charities USA's Call for Immigration Reform

Background

In 2005, Catholic Charities USA published Justice for Newcomers; A Catholic Call for Solidarity and Reform. This document represents the response of Catholic Charities USA and its members to the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops' (USCCB) campaign for immigration reform, Justice for Immigrants: A Journey of Hope.

The Justice for Immigrants campaign works "to unite and mobilize a growing network of Catholic institutions, individuals, and other persons of good faith in support of a broad legalization program and comprehensive immigration reform.”

The campaign also strives to address the conditions that compel people to leave their homes including desperation and lack of opportunities.

A diverse group of Catholic organizations with national networks support the Bishops' campaign, including Catholic Charities USA and Catholic Relief Services.

The campaign aims to reach beyond the networks of the participating national agencies and enlist the support of Catholic individuals and institutions in dioceses throughout the country.

Justice for Newcomers Today

Catholic Charities USA and its members are committed to working in solidarity with migrants and newcomers to develop a comprehensive solution that creates immigrant policies that work for all people.
