Issue Area: Family Economic Security

Thirty-seven million people, about 1 in 8 Americans and 1 in 6 children, now live under the official federal poverty level. Poverty not only threatens the dignity of human life and the ability to meet basic needs, but also threatens families as well.

All persons should have the opportunity to adequately provide for themselves and their families. The family is the indispensable and essential unit of our society, and policies must promote and strengthen the economic security of families.
