Keep the Dream Alive

Honoring the Memory of  Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Save the Date - Monday, January 14, 2013

January 16, 2012 | Washington, DC |  St. Aloysius Church

Catholic Charities USA and Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Washington were proud to co-sponsor a Mass and Awards Ceremony on Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day to keep his dream alive and honor national figures who work to reduce poverty and promote racial justice.

This year, Catholic Charities USA recognized Kevin Concannon, Under-Secretary for Food, Nutrition and Consumer Services; Janet Valente Pape, former executive director of Catholic Charities Wichita; and Mayor Anthony Williams, former mayor of Washington DC. Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Washington also honored Andrea Roane, 9 News Now Anchor, with the 2012 Faith Does Justice Award.

Following the Mass and reception, attendees were invited to volunteer at Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Washington’s women’s homeless shelter. Volunteers worked one-on-one with women who reside at the Harriet Tubman Shelter on an art project.

A special thank you to all who participated and are keeping the dream alive!
